Are you planning a visit to Dubai, Abu Dhabi or one of the other emirates in the UAE this Eid? Whether you are looking for a family-friendly holiday, a city break with loved ones, or an action-packed adventure with friends, you will find plenty to see and do during this public holiday.
We round-up what’s going on where and when during Eid, where to book some of the best hotel rooms in the UAE, and what attractions simply have to be on your to-do list!
What to expect
Eid Al Adha is a hugely important date in the Islamic calendar, and it is the second of the two Eid holidays during the year. This four-day event follows the Muslim pilgrimage of Hajj, and in 2019 is expected to fall in from Saturday, August 10 to Tuesday, August 13.
While Eid falls during the hot summer months, when the temperature can peat at 40 degrees-plus, it is an incredible time to visit the UAE and soak up the celebrations. There is a wide choice of state-of-the-art (and some world-record breaking) activities, sights and events to enjoy – many within the comfort of air-conditioned facilities.
Enjoy the great outdoors
There’s no better place to keep your cool than at the action-packed waterparks in the UAE. You can brave the slides and rides at Wild Wadi and Aquaventure in Dubai or Yas Waterworld in Abu Dhabi. Little ones will love making a splash at Legoland Waterpark, where there’s a wide choice of water-based rides for children as young as two years. And there’s something for all the family at Laguna waterpark at La Mer, where you can choose between the splash park, lazy river, slides and boarding experience.
For the ultimate adrenalin rush, head just 45 minutes out of Dubai to Jebel Jais Flight – the world's longest zipline – in Ras Al Khaimah where the temperature is always a few degrees cooler in the mountains. For the opportunity to zipline at speeds of up to 150kph at a jaw-dropping height of 1,680 metres through stunning mountain scenery, this activity is well worth the drive.
Indoor action and adventure
You can really chill out in the snow park and on the slopes at Ski Dubai, which also has attractions including zorbing, zip lining and penguin encounters. Or, grab your skates for some twists and turns on the ice rink at The Dubai Mall, which also has a crazy golf course open for Eid.
There are plenty of indoor rides and rollercoasters at theme parks including IMG World of Adventure, Bollywood, Legoland and Motiongate in Dubai, and Warner Bros World in Abu Dhabi. And you can enjoy a close encounter with a crocodile at Dubai Aquarium, ride a dolphin at Dubai Dolphinarium or Aquaventure, or search for sharks at The Lost Chambers Aquarium.
Celebrate Eid at the mall
Head to any of the UAE’s shopping malls, such as The Dubai Mall or Yas Mall, and you’ll find an exciting programme of free events throughout the day and night for all the family to enjoy. Don’t forget your purse or wallet, though, as there are some fantastic sales in stores on every floor!
Where to stay
If you’re looking for an affordable but modern hotel in the UAE, then check into one of Premier Inn’s seven hotels located within Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Choose from the convenience of the Dubai International Airport Hotel and Abu Dhabi International Airport Hotel; the opening offers of Dubai Al Jaddaf Hotel; or the proximity to the shopping mall and Dubai Metro at Dubai Ibn Battuta Hotel. Other options for your Eid holiday include Dubai Investments Park Hotel, Dubai Silicon Oasis hotel, and Abu Dhabi Capital Centre Hotel.
Wherever you choose to stay, you’ll wake up feeling full rested after sleeping in the hotel’s Hypnos beds, stay connected with free WiFi, and enjoy deals such as free kids’ meals and late check-out when you book directly. You can indulge more for less thanks to the Premier Inn Value Pass, which gives you a wide variety of two-for-one offers on food and beverages at restaurants in the hotel and across the emirates.
