One of the most significant and beautiful Indian festivals celebrated all over the world by millions of Indians and non-Indians alike is Diwali, which is also known as the ‘Festival of Lights.’ The festival is an integral part of Hindu culture, and Hindus use rows of ‘diyas’ or earthen lamps to decorate their homes. Diwali symbolizes the spiritual celebration of good over evil. People express their happiness by lighting up the sky with fireworks and lighting bonfires.

Every year during autumn, Diwali sees Indian families gathering for a feast, festive fireworks, bonfires, sharing sweets and gifts, decorating their houses with earthen lamps and colorful rangoli art. Diwali festivities bring together families from near and far to celebrate love, peace and light. The Goddess Laxmi – who symbolizes wealth and prosperity is worshipped by Hindu households especially on this day. The day after Diwali marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year in India, and also the beginning of a new financial year.

Diwali is celebrated all over India, and if you are planning on visiting your family this year Premier Inn has hotels in Bangalore, New Delhi, Pune and Goa. Our friendly staff can help you with a group booking or short stay at any of our hotels and with any questions you may have.
